From a spark of an idea to reality

Zoe shares her experience of her transition from corporate career to entrepreneurship.

A year ago, I shared a post on social media and publicly declared my intention to set up The Alchemy Academy—an endeavour dedicated to inspiring and nurturing human potential. Little did I know the transformative journey that awaited me.

Transitioning from my corporate career to entrepreneurship has resembled the twists and turns of a roller coaster ride. It's not been easy at times but I've embraced (mostly) the challenge of building the plane whilst flying, developing new skills and mastering a new language of business.

Reflecting on the past 12 months, here are some insights I've gathered along the way:

There is never a ‘right’ time, there is only now: Fears of failure and the opinions of others can hold us back, but taking action despite these concerns is key.

Perfection is the enemy of progress: Embrace imperfection and start taking steps forward. Life is an ongoing experiment, and even failures offer valuable lessons.

Comparison is the stealer of joy: Instead of comparing ourselves to others, let's invest our time and energy in pursuing our own goals and dreams.

We reap what we sow: Our growth knows no limits. We can learn and develop any skill we set our minds to.

Taking ourselves and life (business) less seriously allows us to achieve more: Finding joy in what we do enhances productivity, creativity, and opens doors to new possibilities.

Business is simple, but not easy: While the fundamentals may be straightforward, overcoming challenges requires effort and perseverance.

Beware of being a busy-ness rather than a purposeful action-taker: Focus on meaningful actions aligned with your goals, avoiding the trap of busyness for its own sake.

By being your authentic self, you encourage others to do the same: Embracing your true self and vulnerabilities creates an environment where others feel empowered to do the same.

The best way to show people you care is to care: Genuine empathy and concern build trust and meaningful relationships.

In life, there are radiators and drains: Surround yourself with positive connections who strive for win-win outcomes and foster a supportive and uplifting environment.

No one else is you, that’s your power: Embrace your unique qualities and strengths, as they are the foundation for making your own remarkable contribution to the world.

We can’t predict the future: Rather than seeking certainty, invest your energy in being present and taking the next step forward.
